3 Skills to Work on Before the Start of Soccer Season

Total Soccer’s training programs are designed for standout student-athletes who view the game as more than a seasonal hobby. Because, for us, soccer is a way of life. Our soccer lessons have made Montgomery County soccer leagues more competitive since 2002. We’ve accomplished that by instilling a fearless mentality and versatile skill-set into our students. In the list below, you’ll find three fundamental skills that our coaches encourage all soccer players to build on before the season starts.

Endurance

If you haven’t started going on long runs already, you better start soon. Building your endurance may be the least fun way to improve your game, but this is the only skill that you have total control over. It’s no secret that some athletes are blessed with more natural talent than others. For some, the technical skills come easily, and those athletes tend to succeed very early into their playing years. But if you can outlast them on the field, it gives you a significant advantage.

Control

Having excellent ball-control has everything to do with your first touch on the ball. If you are serious about honing your handling skills, you should practice some first touch drills with your friends and teammates. The best ball-handlers have the ability to receive and trap a long ball without losing control, and they make quick touches on the ball to fake out their opponents. With superior control of the ball, you will be able to dribble through or around your opponents with graceful finesse.

Versatility

It’s important to be a versatile player because you want to be able to thrive in any situation, no matter where you are on the field. Try to learn more about positions and approaches that you are unfamiliar with, even if you never plan on trying them in a game. At the very least, this will give you a better understanding of how the different positions and skill-sets on your team come together to form one collective unit. In other words, becoming more versatile and learning more about the game will make you a better teammate and a better player.

From understanding unfamiliar positions to fine-tuning fundamentals, our Montgomery County Soccer classes focus on improving aspects of your game that traditional team coaches simply don’t have time for. Contact us today for information about our advanced training sessions.
